The Journey's End
Looking for a laid-back local spot in Birmingham that effortlessly blends pub vibes, hearty food, and a splash of karaoke fun? Let me introduce you to The Journey's End, tucked away at 262 Clay Ln, Birmingham B26 1EH - a name that sounds like a final stop, but honestly feels more like a go-to starting point for chill evenings, good laughs, and memorable bites.
From the moment you walk in, there’s a welcoming buzz. Whether it’s the clinking of glasses, the occasional trivia banter on quiz night, or the lively karaoke tunes echoing from the back, there’s no mistaking that this place thrives on energy and community. It’s got that no-frills, proper British pub charm, with the added bonus of bar games, sports screenings, and an outdoor seating area for when the Birmingham skies decide to cooperate.
Now, let’s talk food-because The Journey’s End doesn’t mess about when it comes to generous portions and bold flavors. The Fish and Chips? Golden, crispy perfection. The Scampi with Chips and Peas? Classic comfort. For meat lovers, the Surf and Turf hits all the right notes - think juicy steak paired with perfectly cooked prawns. There's even a Chicken Platter that's known to spark curiosity (and a few cheeky comments) because of how rugged and rustic it looks when served - like someone already had a go, but in the best pub-style way possible.
Craving something with a kick? The Chilli Double and Chicken Wings come with just enough heat to keep things interesting. But if you’re more into nostalgic starters, you’ll appreciate the Prawn Cocktail or maybe the Nachos stacked with all the fixings. Their take on Coconut Shrimp is also a standout, bringing a bit of tropical flair to a mostly hearty British menu.
Drinks? They’ve got you covered from every angle. The bar has a seriously impressive beer selection, with familiar names like Stella Artois on tap, and an ever-popular cider lineup that goes down a treat during quiz nights. Spirits and cocktails are flowing too - the Gin and Lemonade is crisp and refreshing, while the Sake Bomb adds an unexpected twist for those in the mood to mix things up. And yes, there’s champagne on hand if you’re feeling a bit bougie in your tracksuit - no judgment here.
Tea and coffee lovers, you’re not forgotten. Their tea selection is surprisingly thoughtful, and their coffee game is strong enough to earn repeat visits from regulars who just want a quiet moment before lunch.
Speaking of lunch, this spot gets popular fast, especially around mid-day. Locals love dropping in for a quick bite, whether it’s a juicy hamburger, steak dinner, or just a small plate to tide them over. The dine-in experience feels relaxed and unpretentious, but if you're in a hurry or just want to kick back at home, they offer both takeaway and delivery options too.
Accessibility-wise, there’s a wheelchair-accessible entrance and toilet, although the seating itself isn’t particularly adapted - something to keep in mind depending on your needs. The lack of a designated accessible car park may be a slight inconvenience, but once you’re in, the service is prompt and friendly enough to make up for it.
One thing that makes The Journey’s End stand out from your typical neighborhood bar? It wears many hats - breakfast spot, lunch hub, evening hangout, and late-night entertainment lounge - all rolled into one. Whether you're flying solo for a midday burger and beer, joining friends for a Friday karaoke showdown, or just chasing a top-notch pint and pub grub after work, this place makes it easy to settle in and stay longer than you planned.
Reviews
We walked around 15 mins to this pub... We were unsure what to expect but it was lovely. The staff were friendly on arrival... The sun was out so we made our way into the beer garden which was really nice. Proper grass and beautiful trees and lots of seating. We had a really enjoyable afternoon.
Use regularly, but 1st time for food in a long while ? Maybe even pre covid ? Food was really nice, waiting time was ok, bar service can be extremely slow on occasions ? But apart from that great bunch of people working there
Had a fish and chips meal. First visit. Really friendly bar staff and waitress. Lovely food. Should have photographed but got stuck in too fast. Really good experience all round.
Great place for food and people. But recently banned dogs from main bar. Which isn’t a problem. But when having to stand the the “dog” bar for over 10 minutes. Watching 3 staff chatting and not serving anyone. Isn’t good enough. Left the pub and went elsewhere where customers are served.
Lovely place, good atmosphere and alright prices on drink and food would recommend. Staff really lovely and customers really friendly
